The power, act or manner of speaking is known as speech. Grammar is the study of words and their functions and relationship in a sentence. Self-contained speech unit is known as a sentence. A sentence is composed of different kinds of words or classed which are known as parts of speech. Parts of speech are following.

NOUN

A noun is a name. It indicates a person, place, animal or thing. A noun may also of a quality, an action or a concept.

Pronoun

The word which is used in place of a noun is called a Pronoun. It refers to a person, place or thing without naming it.

There are the following types of Pronouns.

ADJECTIVE

A word which is used as a modifier of a noun is called Adjective.

Articles

The words “a” or “an” and “the” are called Articles. A or an is called the indefinite Article because it usually leaves indefinite the person or thing spoken of. The is called Definite Article, because it normally points out some particular person or thing.

The indefinite article is used before singular countable nouns. For example, a book, a pencil, a boy, a girl, an orange, an apple, an old man etc. The definite article is used before singular countable nouns, plural countable nouns and uncountable nouns. For example, the book, the boys, the girls, the milk, the moon, the sun, the English.
