In different languages, some words exist which have different spellings with different meanings but have the same pronunciations. In the English language, such words are called homophones.
In other words, homophones are the pairs of words with different meanings and spellings but are spelled alike.
An example is
There are seven days a week.
There are seven days in a weak.
Week and week are homophones. Using one in place of other completely changes its meaning and makes it wrong. So, it very important to learn the difference.
